BEAUTY // My Daily Makeup Routine for Work

I never thought I’d ever be able to become one of those women that wore makeup to work every day, had her hair done, and outfit snatched on a regular consistent basis.  I just felt like it took too much time and work. And as a resident….time isn’t really something you have a whole lot of.

I’m kinda becoming that chick.  A couple of months ago, I made the decision to really put serious effort into the way that I look for work. Because I know for sure that when I look good I feel great.  Plus, I want to always be the best representation of who I am and Whose I am, you know what I mean?

So with that, I started wearing makeup everyday and put together a 15-minute makeup routine (loosely…it can take anywhere from 10-15 minutes depending on the morning).

First I start by toning my freshly washed face with The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Skin Clearing Toner.  This toner has been a part of my regimen for the past year or so and it has definitely helped my acne-prone skin clear up quite a bit and lessen the breakouts.  Then I moisturize with Aveeno Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer.  This moisturizer is so awesome.  It has great ingredients to help with complexion issues (including salicylic acid), and I love that this moisturizer has SPF 15 in it as well so it’s perfect for the summer time.  Then to help with oil control for this grease-ball I call a face, I apply a layer of Phillip’s Milk of Magnesia  (holy grail for oily girls!), followed by Becca Cosmetic’s Ever-Matte Poreless Primer (ALSO a MUST-HAVE for oily ladies who love wearing makeup and want that matte look all day).  Then right before applying my actual makeup products I spritz on my tried and true Skindinavia No More Shine Makeup Finish for Oily Skin.  Yup, once again, another holy grail product.

Then I use my all-time favorite concealer, Amazing Cosmetics Amazing Concealer in the shade Warm Deep to spot-conceal my areas of post-acne hyperpigmentation.  Then I do my quick eye look using Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner , which like, legitly stays on ALL DAY, and open up my eyes by coating my lashes with Loreal’s Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara.

I brighten up my under eye area by using Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in the shade Amdande and applying with a knock-off beauty-blender type sponge from Real Techniques.  Then using the awesome and super soft Precision Face brush from Bare Minerals, I apply the Bare Minerals Matte Foundation in the shade Golden Deep.  And shout out to my lovely Peds intern Alisha for putting me on to this foundation!  It literally helps my face stay matte ALL. DAY. LONG! In combination with the other products of course.  And does a pretty good job of matching my complexion as well.  AND it has SPF 15 so again, perfect for summer time.  I really love that this foundation has a wide array of shades as well because….after my upcoming beach trip I just may need to move up a shade…but I digress.  I follow that with a bit of blush on the cheeks using the e.l.f. Blush Brush.  My blush of choice on a daily basis is usually Milani  Fantastico Mauve.

I finish off the look first with another spritz of the Skindinavia setting spray.  Then for my lips, I line them with MAC’s Chestnut Liplinerapply Kat Von D’s Studded Kiss Lipstick in Cathedral, and top it off with a gloss from Laura Mercier in the color Bare Beige (and shout out to my cousin Jonelle for putting me on to this gloss as well!)

And here’s the finished product!

I definitely think it makes a difference in how I feel about myself when I KNOW my face is BEAT for the GAWDS hunty! lol

Hope you enjoyed today’s post and have an awesome weekend loves!

Love and God Bless,

Birthday Talk // My T-Day Wish List

It’s exactly 23 days until my 26th birthday.  Y’all. I’m getting OLD! lol  Probably too old to still be getting birthday gifts, to be completely honest lol.  (I feel like I say that every single year…lol)  But that’s exactly what today’s post is about.

Now mind you, I am not by any means expecting to have any of these things given to me, much less all of them.  Isn’t that why they call it a wish list?  Yes. A girl/woman can dream.  And that I shall 😉

Simple but oh so thoughtful.  I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of receiving flowers.  Yes they die in a week, but they’re just so gorgeous to look at and to smell.  And lavendar is my favorite color to look at…while red is definitely becoming my favorite color to wear and kind of overall…. And of course, they make an awesome birthday gift 😉

#2.  Tickets to See Keiko Matsui at The Birchmere Alexandria on October 4th

So I saw Keiko Matsui for the first time live at Capital Jazz Fest back in June and really loved her spirit and her music.  She just so happens to also be performing at The Birchmere Alexandria the weekend that I’m coming home to celebrate my birthday.  Coincidence? I think NOT!  If anyone out there cares….I’d love you forever for making this happen! 😀

#3.  Tickets to see Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway starring KeKe Palmer

So it was announced back in early August that KeKe Palmer would be replacing the current actress playing Cinderella as the first African American female to play the role on Broadway beginning September 9.  ANYONE that knows me is aware that I have a fascination with Disney Princesses and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED the Brandy & Whitney version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella that came out in 1997.  It’s one of my all-time favorite movies (probably second only to The Sound of Music).  I absolutely adore KeKe as well, and I think that she is quickly on her way to making a very smooth transition from child actress to adult star.  I would love to see her light up the Broadway stage on my birthday!  Epic birthday present of life is really what this would be….*daydreams* lol

I’m beginning to think that I’m a SLIGHT bit of a brand whore…..why?  Because I seem to love all things Marc Jacobs.  At least when it comes to fragrance and nail polish.  But let’s stick to fragrance.  My favorite fragrances in the past few years have all been from Marc Jacobs (Daisy Eau So Fresh and DOT).    I took a whiff of this one day while browsing through Sephora during my vacation last month.  It’s such a beautiful and light fragrance for an Eau de Parfum spray and….I need to go back and get another sample soon. Or….be blessed on my birthday lol.

Now this fragrance is classic TJ. Floral & fruity goodness perfect for everyday wear.  I got a sample on one of my many visits to Sephora to make a purchase and fell in love.  I’ve tried the Miss Dior Cherie fragrance (now simply called Miss Dior) and really liked it so I’m sure this would be no different as far as the love factor.

Dude, if anyone could find this lippie and gift it to me as a birthday present, I’d love them forever.  I have been looking for this particular shade for MONTHS and it’s always sold out at every single Sephora store and online.  It’s such a perfect deep red wine color….ugh! I love it!

I have really loved basically every RiRi + MAC Collabo project that’s come out ever since summer 2013.  The new Rihanna Viva Glam II collection comes out September 9th online and September 11th in stores.  Of course I’m going to try to get it on my own but if you’re a makeup lover, you already know that these things sell out with a QUICKNESS.  But, the fact that it’s a Viva Glam item usually means that it’ll be restocked so…we shall see.

I already have the shade “Opal” in this amazing highlighter, and I’ve heard great things about the Topaz shade.  But something about this Rose Gold? Hunty.  First of all, I already love rose-gold in and of itself (watches and jewelry).  Now to have it as a highlight? I would looooove that!

#9.  Kate Spade Cedar Street Perforated Small Harmoby

This bag first caught my attention when Krystal (of “The Feisty House” fame…lol) posted her Eva Chen pose featuring this very bag.  And yes. I fell in love.  It’s such a great versatile piece.  I recently bought my first Kate Spade bag (which I LOVE) and it definitely whet my appetite for what else Kate Spade had to offer….and this bag. Yes. Ma’am.

Remember my disclaimer at the beginning of this post? Okay then….lol.  I know ain’t nobody out there finna buy me these shoes and I’m not buying them.  But aren’t they just so pretty to look at?  Classic, timeless, black suede court-style red bottoms.  Maybe one day, when I’m living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, I’ll splurge on these. *side-eyes Med School loans*

Oh in a perfect world…lol.

The countdown to 26 y/o continues! 23 more days indeed!

Love and God Bless,

– T

Makeup // Taking It All Off

After a long day or night with a full face of makeup, it’s easy to just want to pass out in bed and worry about your face in the morning.  But!  Properly removing makeup at the end of the day/night is an important part of having healthy skin.  To be fair, my makeup removal routine is pretty lazy.  I don’t even wash my face (I know, I know, terrible).  But!  It gets the make up off and works well for me!

Neutrogena Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes (I get mine in bulk from Sam’s Club) / Loreal Clean Artiste Waterproof and Long Wearing eye makeup remover (Target) / Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel with Aloe Vera Formula ( / Cotton rounds (any drugstore) / Now Solutions Vitamin E Cream (Swanson)

These Neutrogena Makeup Remover wipes are pretty amazing.  They get off pretty much all of my foundation and other face makeup and due a pretty good job with waterproof make up as well.  But sometimes my mascara can be quite a bit stubborn, and that’s when using the Loreal Clean Artiste eye makeup remover comes in handy.  It is oil-based which seems to make it easier to remove waterproof makeup compared to non-oil based eye makeup removers.  I moisten a cotton round and press it onto my eyelid and lashes (and brows) to saturate it with product and remove my eye makeup.  Once that’s done, I moisten another cotton round with the Thayer’s Rose Petal Witch Hazel, which is my all-time favorite toner/astringent, to further remove any excess makeup and refresh my skin.  Finally, I moisturize my skin with the Vitamin E Cream, which is a great nighttime moisturizer and has slowly been helping to fade my post-acne hyperpigmentation.

And that’s essentially it!  Do you ladies have a makeup removal routine?  If so, what do you do?  I’d love to hear about it and maybe even adjust my regimen to make it even better.

Until next time…

Love and God Bless,

– T

Video // May + June Onyx Box!

Hey guys!  I recently decided to venture into the world of subscription boxes after much trepidation…and research.  I have to say, I was quite skeptical of doing this because there’s always a risk that I may not like any of the products or ever use them or that they may not even be helpful to my hair or skin.  Plus, I wanted to make sure that I would get the most bang for my buck.

So after sifting through my various options, I decided to go with the Onyx Box subscription service.  I chose this service because it caters to the beauty and haircare needs of Black/African American/Women of color, it provides a wide range of decent sized samples and full-sized skincare, beauty, and haircare products by companies that are both well-known and not so renowned (which is a great way to cater to the product junky within without going broke, in my humble opinion), and who doesn’t want the guarantee of a package on your doorstep to open up each month?!?  And for the price of $25 a month, you get some pretty good items!

I received both my May & June Onyx boxes recently, and wanted to share the contents with you.  Check out the video below for more info!
