HotTT featuring: Keyshia Cole

It’s the return of Hot Trax Tuesday!  Yay!

**Random side note:  I really like how iTunes is now giving a 1:30 listening samples of all the songs.  It is SOOOO much better to get an idea of whether or not you’ll actually like something and wanna buy it.  Okay back to this**

For the New Year, I’m definitely “resolving” to stay on track with my HotTT posts on some sort of consistent basis.  I like sharing my “likes” in music with you guys so I’m gonna do my best to keep it up!

This week, I wanted to share with you three of my favorite songs from an artist that I personally really enjoy, Keyshia Cole.  You may know her from some of her hit singles such as “Love”, “I Changed My Mind”, “Let it Go” among many others.  Her style of music really does remind me of this generations Mary J, in my humble opinion.  But you can form your own conclusions lol.

Ready for my picks???  Well to make things even better, I’m gonna make a playlist of the songs for each HotTT post on YouTube so that you can see these two and all the future HotTT picks to come!  Yay! lol  But as a hint to the songs, I just really like how these each give a story of hurt, then hope, and finally some kinda happiness.  Along with 3 different hair colors…BUT that’s all I’m gonna say!

So check out my personal faves from Ms. Keyshia Cole by clicking HERE and stay tuned for all the HotTT picks that I’ll continue adding to this playlist throughout the year.

Until the next HotTT post,

Love and God Bless,

HotTT: My Top 10 Faves in 2010

Hey Guys!  So yeah it’s not Tuesday, but to make up for all the HotTT posts I’ve missed, decided to make a post of some of the songs that came out this year that I absolutely LOVED!  It was extremely hard to narrow it down to just 10 so I have 5 bonus ones too lol.  And that STILL doesn’t include everything.

As most you probably know, most of the songs I really couldn’t embed (these people got tight security on their music!  Can’t say I blame them lol).  SOOO I went ahead and made a playlist on YouTube!  Yaay!

TOP 10 FAVES OF 2010 (in no particular order):  Click HERE to see the run down!

I hope you go ahead and watch my playlist on YouTube and that you like my little list and if it’s something you never heard before, I hope it peaks your interest 🙂

FAVES THAT COULDN’T FIT IN TO THE TOP 10

– Keri Hilson – “Pretty Girl Rock”

– Corinne Bailey Rae – “Closer”

– Jawan Harris – “Nobody”

– Willow Smith – “Whip My Hair”

– Shontelle – “Impossible”

Looking forward to good music in 2011 🙂

Love and God Bless,

HotTT featuring: Paris Bennett

** Sorry for not posting the poll for this week’s HotTT post. Just been extra busy with this Peds rotation…but that’s a whole other post lol. Hope you guys like today’s feature anyways! 🙂 **

Today’s featured Hot Track is coming to us courtesy of the lovely Paris Bennett.

Just a little background, I was first introduced to Ms. Paris on the 5th Season of American Idol (you know, back when the show was actually good and I watched it, yeah, way back then).  She was my favorite from her very first audition.  Her voice is AMAZING!  But yall know how America’s votes go sometimes (need I remind you of Miss Tamyra Gray…still salty about THAT 😦  lol).

Anyways, Paris is also the daughter of Jamecia Venzett Bennett, who was a member of Sounds of Blackness back in the day, and the great Ann Nesby, the lead singer of Sounds of Blackness.  So long story short, this girl has talent running through her veins (and arteries… I never understood why they’ve never included arteries in this saying; arteries carry blood too…anyways).

So I wanted to share a hot track from her debut album, Princess P which came out back in 2007 (yup, I bought it, hard copy from Target back in ’07).

Duet (ft. J. Isaac)
This track in itself is just absolutely beautiful.  I love the concept, the words, the voices are awesome.  They can sing!  They blend so beautifully together too, like a true “Duet”.    LOL It’s funny though cuz near the end of the song they start saying names of singers who’ve done famous duets.  I dunno ’bout that Ike and Tina or Rick James and Tina Marie though… but oh how they did make beautiful music together ( ♪ Fiyah and desiyah!!! ♪ eh-em).  Enjoy! 🙂

Until next Tuesday.

HotTT featuring: Alicia Keys

Alright!  Thanks to whoever voted for this young lady to be featured today!

Today’s HotTT feature is the lovely and talented Alicia Keys, since she stepped onto the scene with Girlfriend and the song everybody knows, Fallin’, A. Keys has been a force to be reckoned with.  Not only is she a great singer but her ability to tickle that ivory has been one of her biggest strengths in this industry.  She’s awesome on that bad boy.

The three songs that I will be featuring today are some of my favorites from her (duh! lol)

1.  Diary

2. You Don’t Know My Name
The video for this tells such a nice lil love story.  And Mos Def mos definitely spiced things up just a lil bit.  And the song tells a story that I/we can relate to all too well lol

3.  Like You’ll Never See me again
Again, the video for this is awesome.  She has some of the BEST leading men in her videos I tell ya.  So sad though 😦 You betta cherish the one you have before they’re GONE.

Hope you guys liked today’s feature.  I’ll be posting the new poll a little bit later.  Adios!

HotTT featuring: Esperanza Spalding

Yes, once again it was a tie on the votes.  So I went ahead and chose….Esperanza! 🙂

I absolutely LOVE this young woman that’s our featured artist for this week’s Hot Trax Tuesday.  She is an incredibly talented singer, jazz bassist, and prodigy.  She’s just AWESOME!  She is only now beginning to get a small portion of the recognition she deserves (I know some of yall saw her during the Prince Tribute at this year’s BET awards and were like, “Who the heck is this chick?” while I was like  “You betta GET IT Esperanza!!!” eh em…).  Her third studio Album Chamber Music Society is currently out and it is FIYAH!  And that’s putting it lightly.  I was SO ABSOLUTELY EXCITED to see her perform live this past weekend when she came to my part of town….AWESOME!!!

BTW, check out these pics of the lovely Ms. Spalding’s performance taken by a friend of mine who happens to be an amazing photographer and the founder of Through His Eyes photography:

You can check out more of his work at:

http://www.PhototCC.com

The THREE tracks (yes yall, I really couldn’t narrow it down lol) I chose are just really some of my favorites out of the AMAZING body of work she has released.  Hope you guys enjoy!

I Know You Know
This song is just sick….*smh*

Fall In
The beauty of the words and the melody and the composition of this song….makes me breathless every time I hear it…

Wild Is the Wind
This song is originally performed by Nina Simone.  I definitely LOVE Esperanza’s version better.  Chills and goosebumps every time!  I just love her voice yall….

Don’t forget to vote for next week’s feature below:

Until next week!

HotTT featuring: Stevie Wonder

Well, it was actually a tie between Stevie Wonder and Corinne Bailey Rae.  But in the event that such a tie is reached, the author of this blog holds the right to make the final decision.  Hopefully next time it won’t be so tight of a race lol.

Stevie Wonder, the younger Ray Charles, so to speak, is definitely one of my FAVORITE artists.  His music truly transcends time and in my eyes will always be applicable.  It was REALLY hard for me to narrow down my choices for today’s HotTT pick so…I had to go ahead and pick two 🙂

1.  Overjoyed
This really has to be my all time favorite song by Stevie Wonder.  It’s so romantic, and I’m a sucker for all that mushy, fall in love, yadda yadda yadda type of stuff.  Awesome song 🙂

2.  Happy Birthday
And of course I had to pick this one!  Not just because today is my birthday (YAAAAAY!).  But also because of what this song represents.  Not only has it become an international phenomenon in celebrating people’s birthdays, but initially Stevie Wonder made this song to help promote the institution of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday as a national holiday, something that Stevie was very passionate about.  And well…the rest is history!  ♪♫ Happy Birthday to Ya! ♫♪

And as always, don’t forget to VOTE for next week’s HotTT feature.  The poll is now up!

Til next week…

HotTT featuring: Tamia

Our featured HotTT artist today is definitely beautiful and talented, a true basketball wife, an awesome mother, and full of strength.  She is none other than Tamia.  She has been nominated for 6 Grammy Awards (which I do believe she should have won…but I digress) and rightfully so!  She has an AMAZING voice and she hasn’t let anything slow her down from achieving her goals.  Although she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (a disease that affects different areas of the nervous system and can be quite disabling), she has continued to do what she loves (and what we love to hear her do…) and that is to create timeless music.

The song I wanted to feature today from Tamia is actually one of my FAVORITES from her.  And the video is absolutely beautiful and has a clever concept (notice all the different objects in the video that are “almost” complete but still missing something to make them perfectly…complete lol. Pardon my redundancy 🙂 )  “Almost” brings back so many memories for me it’s kinda crazy…..*daydreaming*….

Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed this week’s featured Hot Track, and don’t forget to vote for who you’d like to see featured  in next week’s post in the poll here:

See you guys next week!

Love and God Bless,
