Birthday Talk // My T-Day Wish List

It’s exactly 23 days until my 26th birthday.  Y’all. I’m getting OLD! lol  Probably too old to still be getting birthday gifts, to be completely honest lol.  (I feel like I say that every single year…lol)  But that’s exactly what today’s post is about.

Now mind you, I am not by any means expecting to have any of these things given to me, much less all of them.  Isn’t that why they call it a wish list?  Yes. A girl/woman can dream.  And that I shall 😉

Simple but oh so thoughtful.  I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of receiving flowers.  Yes they die in a week, but they’re just so gorgeous to look at and to smell.  And lavendar is my favorite color to look at…while red is definitely becoming my favorite color to wear and kind of overall…. And of course, they make an awesome birthday gift 😉

#2.  Tickets to See Keiko Matsui at The Birchmere Alexandria on October 4th

So I saw Keiko Matsui for the first time live at Capital Jazz Fest back in June and really loved her spirit and her music.  She just so happens to also be performing at The Birchmere Alexandria the weekend that I’m coming home to celebrate my birthday.  Coincidence? I think NOT!  If anyone out there cares….I’d love you forever for making this happen! 😀

#3.  Tickets to see Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella on Broadway starring KeKe Palmer

So it was announced back in early August that KeKe Palmer would be replacing the current actress playing Cinderella as the first African American female to play the role on Broadway beginning September 9.  ANYONE that knows me is aware that I have a fascination with Disney Princesses and I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED the Brandy & Whitney version of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella that came out in 1997.  It’s one of my all-time favorite movies (probably second only to The Sound of Music).  I absolutely adore KeKe as well, and I think that she is quickly on her way to making a very smooth transition from child actress to adult star.  I would love to see her light up the Broadway stage on my birthday!  Epic birthday present of life is really what this would be….*daydreams* lol

I’m beginning to think that I’m a SLIGHT bit of a brand whore…..why?  Because I seem to love all things Marc Jacobs.  At least when it comes to fragrance and nail polish.  But let’s stick to fragrance.  My favorite fragrances in the past few years have all been from Marc Jacobs (Daisy Eau So Fresh and DOT).    I took a whiff of this one day while browsing through Sephora during my vacation last month.  It’s such a beautiful and light fragrance for an Eau de Parfum spray and….I need to go back and get another sample soon. Or….be blessed on my birthday lol.

Now this fragrance is classic TJ. Floral & fruity goodness perfect for everyday wear.  I got a sample on one of my many visits to Sephora to make a purchase and fell in love.  I’ve tried the Miss Dior Cherie fragrance (now simply called Miss Dior) and really liked it so I’m sure this would be no different as far as the love factor.

Dude, if anyone could find this lippie and gift it to me as a birthday present, I’d love them forever.  I have been looking for this particular shade for MONTHS and it’s always sold out at every single Sephora store and online.  It’s such a perfect deep red wine color….ugh! I love it!

I have really loved basically every RiRi + MAC Collabo project that’s come out ever since summer 2013.  The new Rihanna Viva Glam II collection comes out September 9th online and September 11th in stores.  Of course I’m going to try to get it on my own but if you’re a makeup lover, you already know that these things sell out with a QUICKNESS.  But, the fact that it’s a Viva Glam item usually means that it’ll be restocked so…we shall see.

I already have the shade “Opal” in this amazing highlighter, and I’ve heard great things about the Topaz shade.  But something about this Rose Gold? Hunty.  First of all, I already love rose-gold in and of itself (watches and jewelry).  Now to have it as a highlight? I would looooove that!

#9.  Kate Spade Cedar Street Perforated Small Harmoby

This bag first caught my attention when Krystal (of “The Feisty House” fame…lol) posted her Eva Chen pose featuring this very bag.  And yes. I fell in love.  It’s such a great versatile piece.  I recently bought my first Kate Spade bag (which I LOVE) and it definitely whet my appetite for what else Kate Spade had to offer….and this bag. Yes. Ma’am.

Remember my disclaimer at the beginning of this post? Okay then….lol.  I know ain’t nobody out there finna buy me these shoes and I’m not buying them.  But aren’t they just so pretty to look at?  Classic, timeless, black suede court-style red bottoms.  Maybe one day, when I’m living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, I’ll splurge on these. *side-eyes Med School loans*

Oh in a perfect world…lol.

The countdown to 26 y/o continues! 23 more days indeed!

Love and God Bless,

Calvin Klein CK One Summer

Recently I picked up a new fragrance to try to replace my everyday perfume, Benefit Maybe Baby.  It’s literally about to be on its last spray.  So I made a trip to Macy’s and picked up this wonderful, and somewhat daring scent, at least for me.  And it is:

Top Notes:  Tangerine, Water fern, Melon

Heart Notes:  Lemon, Sea breeze accord, Yellow freesia, Verbena, Rhubarb

Base Notes:  Cedarwood, Skin Musk, Incense, Peach skin

This fragrance is a little bit different for me because it’s a little bit spicier than I’m used to but because of all the fruity/floral notes that are also intertwined, it’s makes this a good transition.  I do eventually want to branch out and try some other types of fragrances besides my traditional scents (examples of my faves can be seen HERE and HERE).  But at the end of the day it all comes down to body chemistry and what scent I really like.

I also have to say that this fragrance has some really good staying power.  It is an Eau de Toilette, which as many of my fragrance buffs out there know isn’t as potent as the Eau de Parfum which often means less staying power.  However, I was pleasantly surprised.  Especially when comparing them to my other fragrances that are Eau de Toilettes.  So I am very impressed with that.  So far so good!

Spring Haul! ~ Beauty and Fragrance

Since taking my Step 2, I’ve kinda gone crazy doing beauty and fragrance shopping.  Hey, a girl’s gotta celebrate right?  Needless to say, this will most likely be the only big spending trip that I do until…summer officially begins.  Hopefully…Pray for me 🙂
So, just wanted to share with you guys what I got because I’m pretty excited about the products and I can’t wait to do official reviews on them and let you all know how they work out when I use them myself.  Here we go!

1.  Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Liquid Foundation
So As you guys know from a previous post, I’ve been using the Laura Mercier Oil-Free Foundation.  While that offered great coverage and always initially looked really nice on my skin, I definitely noticed that if I wore it for a prolonged period of time, it would turn orange on me, which kinda sucked.  BUT since I paid a cool dollah bill for it, I worked with it, touching up whenever I needed to, definitely wore it to the very end.  And now that the foundation is about to be finished and it’s past the 6 month period that’s supposed to be the limit for keeping foundation/make up/what not, I decided I’d give this a shot.

After doing TONS of research (watching dozens of YouTube reviews by women of color, looking at the reviews on Sephora, etc.) I hit up and found that this foundation was the top-selling liquid foundation with an average rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars AND the very awesome thing was the range of shades.  This foundation is available in 25 shades (as opposed to the 10 in Laura Mercier, of which I had been using the darkest shade) which is FABULOUS!  And the company was developed out of Paris, France which I hear has a pretty decent appreciation for us chocolate peeps lol.  So I went to an actual Sephora store to get color matched and this was what I ended up getting:

MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Invisible Cover Liquid Foundation in 178 Chestnut

It feels very smooth going on so we’ll see how it goes.  I’ll definitely keep you guys posted! 🙂

2.  NARS Blush and Highlighter
So I pretty much decided to up my make up game as far as technique and some products go.  As far as blush goes, I’ve only ever tried one in my life and that’s elf’s Blushing Rose.  Now for all my beauty gurus out there I KNOW I’m late to NARS, but apparently it’s THE BEST blush and highlight brand out there!  So after doing some more research on good blushes for women of color, and then…eliminating the ones that I was too afraid to try such as Exhibit A and Taj Mahal, I settled on this very pretty soft, dusty rose color called Dolce Vita which is actually very similar to Blushing Rose by elf, and here’s what it looks like:

NARS Blush in Dolce Vita

In addition, decided to try my hand at highlighting!  Not sure if I’m really interested in contouring just yet but hey, who knows.  But to get me started, I tried another raved about product by NARS called Albatross.

NARS Albatross Highlighting Blush Powder

Although it looks white in the pan, of course that’s not the color that it puts on the skin; it’s more of a sheer, glowing highlight that you can apply to emphasis the areas where light will naturally hit the face (see?  Research!)

Decided to get a new spring/summer fragrance and what I ended up getting really just slid in at the last-minute, seriously.  I was actually planning on getting either Rihanna’s Reb’l Fleur, Dior Addict 2, or DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom.  However, when I went to Macy’s to just refresh my senses of these fragrances, I came across a fragrance that I’d never seen before and it was weird, because I really didn’t like the original of this fragrance because I felt like it was too strong.  BUT this bad boy grabbed my attention and hasn’t let it go since I sprayed it on my skin and tested it out for a day.

Marc Jacobs Daisy Eau So Fresh

A whimsical interpretation of the original Daisy fragrance, this scent is more fruity, more bubbly, more fun! Open the bottle and you’ll be transported to a field of sunshine that bursts with the flirty scent of flowers and the cheerful sweetness of fruits. Its light, woody base infuses a subtle but sharp glimmer of musk for an unexpected twist of radiance.
Fun to look at, touch, and open, the gold top of the weighted glass bottle is covered in six soft-to-the-touch daisies with petals in white, pink, and yellow.

Natural Raspberry, Grapefruit, Pear, Violet, Wild Rose, Apple Blossom, Musks, Cedarwood, Plum.
Exhilarating. Bubbly. Playful.

TOTALLY my style!!!  I literally cannot keep my nose away from this stuff!  It’s just so PRETTY!  AND I got this pretty tote bag for free with it:

Free Flower Tote with $65 Womens Fragrance Purchase

I got it in black…may be feeling some “free gift remorse” and wishing I got it in pink since I have no pink purses but hey.  Can’t really go wrong with black 🙂

The scent may be a little bit much for work, but of course I still have my trusty super light (not very long-lasting) Maybe Baby by Benefit.  So in ♥ with Daisy Eau So Fresh though!!!

From Target I got two new brushes to help with my new highlighting/contouring/blush experience and experimentation

 elf Studio Blush Brush

elf Bronzing Brush
Blushing, Bronzing and Blending Brush

In addition this is a hair product that I heard about from Koos at The Feisty House that I’m looking forward to using on my Curlformer set this weekend.

And that about wraps it up.  If you guys try any of these products I hope they turn out great for you and I will definitely be keeping you posted with reviews on what my thoughts are on everything I got.

In case anyone out there wants to make me SUPER happy for Christmas…LOL

Today I got a recommendation from one of my friends, after taking a look at his Top 7 fragrance vid on Youtube (check him and it out by clicking HERE) to check out a new fragrance that apparently the world loves.  So when I went out Christmas shopping with my sibs, I decided to stop by my local Sephora and give it a sniff.  The fragrance he recommended was:

Dior Addict indulges the senses with sumptuous silk tree flower, voluptuous night queen flower, and luscious bourbon vanilla combined with sandalwood and tonka bean to evoke a feeling of passion in the boldly sexy woman who wears it.

Silk Tree Flower, Mandarin Leaf, Orange Blossom, Night Queen Flower, Bulgarian Rose, Bourbon Vanilla Absolute, Mysore Sandalwood, Tonka Bean.
Sensual. Soft. Feminine.

This fragrance is definitely very oriental and woodsy, in my opinion.  A little bit too strong for my liking, but from the raves and reviews, I’m sure it’s a tried and true for many women.  However, while at the store, I noticed another bottle right next to this one and it was called Dior Addict 2.  And let’s just say it was love at first whiff….

Dior Addict 2 begins with a sparkling, alluring burst of fresh femininity, like a sweet bubble of optimism and energy. Crisp, clean notes of bergamot, grapefruit, and orange mingle with fresh floral notes and ripe fruits, soothed with warm sandalwood and white musk – this is Dior’s baby doll.

Bergamot, Grapefruit, Orange, Freesia, Lily of the Valley, Lotus Flower, Pineapple, Watermelon, Grenadine, Sandalwood, White Musk.
Free-spirited. Feminine. Glamorous.

You guys, I promise you, I fell completely in love with this fragrance!  But as you probably guessed, since it’s “Dior” the name comes with a price, with a $67 price tag per 1.7 fl oz.  So….as my title suggests unless anyone wants to be super nice to me for the Holidays lol.  I’ll just have to hold out until I actually can afford to get a new fragrance.  But for those of you who are interested and can afford it, definitely give this a try if you like the super flirty, feminine, light floral, and citrusy scents out there 🙂

And the winner is….

As mentioned a couple of days ago, I was looking for a new fragrance for the winter, (see post HERE).  And the one I chose was….

Wait for it….

Wait some more…

Just a lil bit more…

I just pretty much loved everything about this fragrance.  I fell in love with the concept initially before purchasing it.  Like Clinique Happy, it pretty much sounds like what I envision myself to be/want, except in a bottle lol.   And the smell is just….sexy to put it simply and lightly lol.  Can’t wait to continue wearing it and hopefully loving it with each new spray 🙂

Searching for the perfect Fall/Winter Fragrance

Yup, that’s what I’ve been up to these days (along with my Peds rotation.  These kids are wearing me out!)

Right now, I love my fragrance.  But it’s more of a summery feel (sometimes I really stop and think, what kinda luxury I have where changing fragrances is a big deal, when there are people in the world whose “big deal” is where their next meal is coming from.  Mercy…Lord help me to do my part…But I digress).

Current Fragrance = Clinique Happy
Clinique Happy
Description:  Launched in 1997, the original Happy is a lingering, multi-layered floral. Wear it and be happy.
Notes:  Ruby Red Grapefruit, Boysenberry Bush Flower, Hawaiian Wedding Flower.
Style:  Chic. Modern. Sparkling.

It’s my perfect fragrance.  But now that Fall and Winter are around the corner, I feel like I need something a bit softer, cozier, with a little more warmth and intimacy to it….stop giving me the side eye… (^_^)

So as I’m going on the hunt these are my top contenders.

1.  Victoria’s Secret Dream Angel’s Line

There are quite a few fragrances in this line.  And I have my eye on three.

Description:  Give in to ethereal romance. Soft and smooth with a creamy blend of white peony, soft vanilla and creamy sandalwood.
Fragrance type: vanilla oriental
Top notes: quince, cardamom
Middle notes: white peony, freesia
Low notes: white musk, sandalwood, vanilla

I’ve actually tried this fragrance in the body spray form before and I absolutely loved it.  It’s so soft and feminine.  Ugh!  It’s just…heavenly as the name says lol.

Description:  Bask in euphoria. Vibrant and luminous, with a bright blend of lotus flower, waterlily, amber and sheer sandalwood. Top notes: lotus blossom, rose
Middle notes: lily of the valley, waterlily
Low notes: sandalwood, blonde wood, amber

Never tried this one but it sounds really nice!  Not sure if it would be TOO floral for the winter time or for me.  But we shall see.

Description:  Bright and hopeful, with a whimsical blend of sparkling grapefruit, orange flower and cashmere woods.
Fragrance type: fruity floriental
Top notes: sparkling grapefruit, pink peppercorn, mandarin flower, waterfruits, bergamot
Middle notes: jasmine tea, honeysuckle, vanilla orchid, papaya flower, orange flower, magnolia petals
Low notes: cashmere woods, vanilla crème, soft musk

I really like how each of these fragrances have names that represent exactly what notes are in the perfume.  This one sounds very interesting and might actually turn out to be my fave…

Needless, to say, I will most likely be making a trip to Vicky’s sometime in the coming days to check these scents out.

2.  DKNY

Look good. Feel good. Do good. This pure new scent adds a drop of vanilla to a world that needs a moment of calm. More than a fragrance, it embraces a way of being that takes time out for the simple things, the things closest—to the heart: love, joy, comfort, relationships, and community. The fragrance’s top notes soar of the pure scent of vanilla. Accords of dewdrop petal, lotus flower, and Bulgarian rose harmonize with a floral heart of jasmine, freesia and lush orchid. It finishes in a cradle of warmth: white amber, creamy sandalwood.

The vanilla used in this fragrance is grown sustainably in Uganda. pureDKNY also supports CARE, an international development organization, in a specific microfinance project that will reach 900 Ugandan vanilla farmers, many of whom are women.

The bottle, organic in shape and inspired by a drop of water, appears to be formed by nature. The materials include 100% recyclable glass and a cap of high-purity aluminum. Its compostable box is made of sustainably harvested paper manufactured in a mill that uses 100% renewable energy.

Notes:  Vanilla, Dew-Drop Petal, Lotus Flower, Bulgarian Rose, Jasmine, Freesia, Lush Orchid, White Amber, Creamy Sandalwood.
Simple. Calm. Authentic.
(love that description!  Not to mention the cause…can’t beat that.  They know how to sell a fragrance BOY! lol)

I actually got one of those little things that come in the magazines/catalogues with my ULTA Breast cancer sale catalogue recently and I placed it on my wrist for a little bit to see how it would interact with my body chemistry.  And I have to say, the scent on its own is really pretty.  But what’s even better is that the scent really does mix well with my body chemistry and smells AWESOME!  And the fact that they support Ugandan vanilla farmers…what else can I say?  This is definitely a top contender on till I get the chance to go to Vicky’s and sample the others.

Any of you guys have experience with any of these fragrances?  I would love to hear about your favorites.  Stay tuned to hear about the progress 🙂

Love and God Bless,

– T
