Model Behavior w/ JCKA Photography

Every now and then my friend Jonathan Adjahoe (of JCKA Photography) manages to convince me that I can model…even though I’m 5′ 3″ (okay…2.5″) and have no concept of what it means to be a size 0 (no really…what IS that? lol).

Do you guys remember the first photoshoot I did with JCKA Photography?  Well this one…is a katrillion times more awesome!  Ready?  Leggo!

I was absolutely speechless when I saw the final results.  I did my own make up and styled myself…but Jon is truly talented and I really appreciate him sharing his blessing with me.  Isn’t it great to have awesome friends???

Hope you guys enjoyed the shoot!  Hit up Jon for any of your photography needs (Weddings, Portraits, Lookbooks, Portfolios, he does it all y’all!)

Til next time…

Dressed To A T #57: Styled by Jane

Hey hey hey!  How’s everyone doing today?  I’m so joyful and just…blessed and happy to be here (^_^)

Today’s blog post has a little story behind it.  I’ve mentioned my friend Jana here on the blog before, also affectionately known as “Jane”.  She has a FABULOUS fashion blog called “The Jane Tales” that I stalk daily; her personal style is so uniquely 100% her.  She’s definitely been an inspiration and very clutch whenever I have no idea what to wear or how to style certain items…which brings us to this past weekend.

I wanted to wear these Christian Siriano “Anna” Wedges (which I actually lusted after and purchased BECAUSE of a photo Jane posted on instagram a while back, ironically lol).  I absolutely ADORE them but…prior to this weekend, I had only worn them once…MAYBE twice.  WHAT was I really doing with my life? Nothing, that’s what.

So I took to the twitter streets and asked Jane to do a virtual styling session with me.  The convo went like this:

So I listened to Jana and put this outfit together!  With a little twist of T, of course.  And I LOVED it 🙂

Semi-sheer cream blouse – borrowed from my little sister (similar HERE) / Navy blue eyelet lace A-line skirt – The Webster Miami at Target (some listed on eBay) / Christian Siriano “Anna” cutout wedge – Payless Shoe Source / Senegalese twists in high bun / MAC lipstick in Rebel

The shirt I wore (which I borrowed from my little sister, a fashionista in her own right, fyi) actually had slits at the shoulders.  Considering I was going to church and was already doing the most with the shoes, I didn’t want to give anyone a heart attack with peek-a-boo shoulders. So I enlisted the help of some safety pins and made this super cute gathered effect on the shoulders of the blouse.  Which…everyone thought was intentional and absolutely fabulous lol.  DIY for Jesus!

All in all, it was an AMAZING look!  Thanks so much Jana for hooking me up!  If you enjoyed this look and want to learn more about Jana’s personal style and what inspires her, check out her blog “The Jane Tales” and find out about her styling and other services (oh yeah girl, she does this for real!) for you or your brand.  You can follow her on Twitter, Instagram, and Vine all under the handle @BasedJane.  Follow and thank me later.

I had so much fun with this post!  I hope you did too 🙂 Until next time…

RiRi♥MAC: Make Up Haul

Hey guys!  Aren’t you surprised and lucky to see a blog post on this Friday afternoon! lol

Well, it’s for good reason!  As many of you know, this week, Rihanna’s make-up collection collabo with MAC cosmetics, RiRi ♥ MAC came out exclusively online and by some stroke of divine intervention, I was able to secure every single last item from the collection (Won’t HE do it??? lol) before some of the items sold out and even got a second set for my sisters (lucky ladies, you…lol), including the previously sold out RiRi Woo.

Just wanted to do a quick post to share with you guys what the products look like.  I’m actually taking this particular set (minus the Lustre drops) with me to the DMV this weekend to give to my sisters and my shipment comes in on Monday.  BUT! I’ll probably be using a couple of the lipsticks over the weekend for some super fun “Dressed To A T” posts next week (stay tuned!!!)

But…on to the make up!

RIRI♥MAC – Hibiscus Kiss – Powder Blush – $26.00

RIRI♥MAC – Barbados Girl – Lustre Drops – $20.00

RIRI♥MAC – RiRi Woo – Lipstick – $15.00

RIRI♥MAC – RiRi Boy – Lipstick – $15.00

RIRI♥MAC – RiRi Heaux – Lipstick – $15.00

Can’t wait to play around with these and see how they look!  Did any of you guys succumb to the hype of the RiRi ♥ MAC collection?  If you’re interested in getting some items from the collection, all three of the lipsticks are still available to order online for a limited time.  AND this is just the first of many collection callaborations that Rihanna will be doing with MAC.  Reports of a fall collection are already circulating so save those coins!  *drops pennies and dimes into piggy bank* lol

Happy first day of summer and have an AMAZING and safe weekend, loves 🙂

My Feature in Sesi Magazine! (^_^)

Hey guys!  So 6 WHOLE months ago I was asked to be featured in an article for the relaunch of Sesi Magazine , a quarterly magazine created by Andrea Butler and based out of Washington, D.C. that caters to adolescent African American young women (and anyone who knows me knows how much compassion I have for the wellbeing of teenagers, especially teenage girls).  In their own words, here’s what Sesi Magazine is all about:

Sesi is dedicated to providing Black teen girls ages 13 to 19 with not only a magazine, but a community that celebrates who they are and where they come from.

Sesi, which means “sister” in the Sotho language of South Africa, is the fresh, new teen magazine edited for YOU, today’s eclectic Black teenage girl. It is dedicated to providing you with a community that focuses on celebrating you and your culture by covering beauty, fashion, relationships, health, education, careers, entertainment, social issues, and more.

At Sesi, we know you are searching for a magazine that dedicates itself to aspects of Black culture such as music, movies, celebrities, hair care, beauty and fashion. We also recognize that you are also concerned about social issues, future education and careers, culture, health and relationships, and we cover the entire gamut.

Being passionate about the adolescent population and having two teenage sisters who are the ideal target audience for a magazine like Sesi, I was definitely drawn to the magazine and the brand and was super excited to have the opportunity to be featured in their Winter 2012 quarterly issue!  And I can’t believe I forgot to share it with you guys! Thanks so much to Andrea for sending me a copy of the feature and allowing me to share it with you all on the blog today 🙂

Work It, Girl Winter-page-2

If you’re interested in learning more about Sesi Magazine, head over to their website and subscribe to the magazine!  It’s only $8.00 for a one year subscription to the quarterly magazine.  Definitely worth missing 2 cups of Starbucks coffee! lol

Shop T’s Closet!

Hey guys!

I finally got around to doing some spring cleaning and my closet and shoe shelves look soooo much better!  I gave most of my professional-looking shoes I was no longer using away when I went to the Lauren Weisberger Revenge Wears Prada event  last week but I still had a few shoes and clothing items that I hadn’t worn at all in the past year, some that I’d worn only once…and others…it was just their time to go.

So what does all this mean? BLOG SALE!  That’s right, I have decided to host my first blog sale with all items listed on eBay (eBay has been having some technical difficulties so if you don’t see the listed items after clicking the link, refresh your browser and the items should load).  Here’s a peek of the items I’m selling:

Blog Sale - Shoes

Blog Sale - Clothing Items

See anything you like?  Then head over to eBay and place a bid if you’re interested 🙂  There are 10 items in total so grab em before they’re gone!

Here Comes The…Wedding Guest (II): Shah-Shah Wedding

I am so super excited about this post!  On May 18, 2013, I attended my first ever Indian/Hindu Marriage Ceremony, and it was for one of my co-residents, Nidhi, someone I absolutely adore and has become my shopping buddy and fellow foodie, and her lovely fiancee Bunty!

I definitely had to do some research to figure out what to wear to this ceremony.  Some of the things that I learned as far as how to dress:
1.  The blingier, the better.  Lots of jewelry is worn by the bride and all of the female wedding guests
2.  Try to wear a sari if you can.  You’ll definitely fit right in.
3.  Black and white are no-no’s. It’s all about BRIGHT COLORS!

Now as far as numbers 1 and 2 went…I was at a loss.  As some of you may have noticed, I don’t usually wear jewelry as part of my outfit posts (or in my everyday life actually lol).  And I definitely didn’t know how or where to find a fab sari for the occasion.  But bright colors! I can definitely do!  So I decided to compromise with a brightly colored dress with some blingy accents and go from there.  Here’s the result!

Dress – Forever21 / Shoes – Burlington Coat Factory / Bangles – Target / Clutch – DSW / Scarf – TJ Maxx / Umbrella – DSW

I had such a good time and the food was AMAZING! I LOVE Indian food and there was sooooo much of it!  I had no idea that you literally eat…ALL day! lol I was in heaven!

Wishing Nidhi and Bunty all the best in their new marriage (and lots of beautiful babies! lol)

2 down, one more wedding to go!  Last post in the HCTWG trilogy is coming up on July 9th.  But have no fear; there will be a new post on the blog next Tuesday 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and supporting this series and the blog!

Love and God Bless,
