Ode to The Feisty House #31: Sunday Brunch & Car Show

Had a pretty awesome Sunday out with some of my friends!  Went out to have brunch for the very first time in DC and then went to the Car Show for the first time.  It was a GREAT day and I love and appreciate my friends so much for obliging me 🙂

We ended up going to a great spot called “The Front Page” that had a brunch buffet. BRUNCH BUFFET! Need I say more? lol  It was great and needless to say, everyone had the itis afterwards lol.

Some decor at "The Front Page"

Omelette station; the chef was AMAZING at what he did, I can vouch lol

Later on some of us headed over to the DC Car Show.  It was fun!  And I saw my future Honda Fit! 🙂 Only thing is…as you’ll see in the pics below, my shoe choice was completely NOT for the win lol.

So. Here’s what I wore! lol

Black jeggings – Aeropostale

Ode to The Feisty House #30: Burgers & Art

I got the chance to go roaming around DC with one of my friends (See! I’m living up to my promise to leave the house! lol).  We went to visit a few museums (can you believe I’ve lived in the DMV for going on 11 years and have only been to the Museum of Natural History??? Yeah he couldn’t either so…we started working on it lol)

Bad news…I really didn’t take many pics while I was out and about.  But I did get a few of the grub 🙂 . Yes we had to eat…and BGR The Burger Joint was AMAZINGNESS!

This is actually the table top at the restaurant...see what they did there? All artsy and what not? 🙂

Light fixtures. The coolness... Organic Chemistry anyone? No? Just me? ( ._.)

Still trying to figure out the hype around this thirst-quencher....*waits*

My sliders...which were oh so YUMMY!

"The Greek" from BGR The Burger Joint. The most epic LAMB BURGER! O. M. G.!

I’m getting hungry again just looking at these pictures.  The Burger Joint is DEFINITELY a must try!

Good news. Two parts.

1. I fell in love with the artwork of painter Gene Davis!  I saw one of his pieces at The Phillips Collection and I’m PRETTY sure I squealed with delight…or at least gasped.  After looking up some more pieces, I realized that what I LOVE the most is his use of COLOR!  It made me soooo happy and excited and had me wishing I could afford to buy a house with a wall big enough to put this gorgeous piece of artwork!  The piece that took my breath away was called Jasmine Jumper and was painted in 1966.  *swoon*

"Jasmine Jumper" by Gene Davis (1966)

Seeing that painting made my entire day….*sigh* but I digress lol

2. When I got home, snapped some quick pics of what I wore on this lovely day!  Yay! lol  The weather was GORGEOUS!  So wish I had taken some outside pics…next time though! I promise! 🙂

Cream long sleeved shirt – Merona for Target
Long grey button up sleeveless cardigan – H&M
Scarf – Merona for Target
Jeans – Dereon (my one pair of Beyoncé jeans…lol )
Brown boots –  Forever21

Ode to The Feisty House #29: Ode to Koos

As many of you may or may not know, I named this OOTD (Outfit Of The Day)/fashion series on my blog after a blog that I love oh so much, The Feisty House, because it inspired me to start this series in the first place.

Krystal (aka Koos), now the solo blogger of The Feisty House, is actually the one that sparked my Target/Merona cardigan obsession….*daydreams* (lol).  The first time I saw THIS POST and that polka dotted cardigan/button-up sweater, I fell in love.  I just HAD to have one of my own!  I found it on Target.com and the rest as they say…is history lol.  The number of Merona cardigans that know live in my closet, borders on ridiculous…but I’m okay with that! lol

The reason I say all of this is because the look in this post is almost an exact replica of Krystal’s look from that very post.  Kinda my little way of paying homage to the source of inspiration for this series on the blog.

FYI my hair is the result of a long and wide curlformer set with some faux bangs created with some long and narrow curlformers in the front of my hair (you can see my tutorial on how I curlform my hair in THIS POST).  I’m actually contemplating getting long bangs again…it’s been a while.  I LOOOVE the way it turned out!  Definitely a winning hair day 🙂

Ruffled sleeveless blouse – Forever21
Polka dot cardigan – Merona for Target
Black pencil skirt & belt – H&M
Polka dot tights – Macy’s
Booties – Yup….same ones from that random NY store (Anne Michelle brand)
Nails – Zoya Nail polish in Meadow (It’s an even MORE gorgeous color in person)
Hair – Long and Wide Curlformer set with faux bangs created with long and narrow curlformers in the front

Muy Interesante: Redemption Through the Cross

*taken from the Summary of this week’s Sabbath School lesson

From the earliest pages of Genesis, the Bible points us to the death of Christ on the cross, where He would die a sinner’s death in order to redeem us, as sinners, from the eternal destruction that sin brings. Though the Bible uses different symbols and metaphors to explain Christ’s death, at the center of it all is His substitution, so graphically expressed in Isaiah 53. If we ever needed proof that works couldn’t save us, we have it with the death of God Himself on the cross. After all, what could fallen beings ever add to that?

Happy Sabbath to all my Sabbath keepers out there! 🙂

Ode to The Feisty House #28: Re-Work It Girl!

When I bought this shirt to wear to a holiday party (remember this post?) I knew that I would wear it again with numerous pieces that I had in my closet because it was so versatile.  So I definitely reworked it in this easy, breezy ensemble, and believe me, this is not the last you’ll be seeing of this pretty champagne blouse 🙂

Blouse- H&M
Black jeggings – Aeropostale
Black faux leather booties – Charlotte Russe

Love and God Bless,

P.S. Yes, I am currently obsessed with high buns.  They’re easy, protective for my ends, and look amazing with almost any outfit.  I’d say I’m winning lol.

2011 Bahamian Vacay Series Part 4: My First Junkanoo Experience

Hey guys!  So this is the last installment for my 2011 Bahamian Vacay Series!  I hope you all enjoyed the posts, pictures, and videos 🙂

On my last day in Freeport, my family and I got to go to Junkanoo, which I had never heard of before (lol). But! It’s pretty much a Caribbean Carnival at night time to kick off the new year.  It was fun and quite creative and I definitely enjoyed myself.

Check out the videos and pics below 🙂

For more info on Junkanoo, you can visit the official “What is Junkanoo” page by clicking HERE.

Thanks again for taking the time to share this vacation experience with me, and I hope this is just the first of many 🙂

A Call to Stand Apart: Day #7

My Prayer:  God, thank you so much for speaking through those closest to me.  I appreciate all of the people that You have placed in my life who care enough to support me when I need them, uplift me when I’m down, encourage me when I’m weary, and even lovingly chastise me when I stray from the path to happiness in You.  I pray that You will continue to use them and bless them, and help me to listen. -Amen

What Blessed Me From Chapter 7:

– “Prayer is opening our hearts to God just as we do with a friend. Prayer doesn’t bring God down to us; it lifts us up to Him (ACS, p. 39).”  ~~ When I started thinking about prayer in this way a long time ago, it made it so much easier to do.  Prayer doesn’t have to be formal and rigid.  Yes…God is holy and we are to respect and revere Him as such, but He also calls us His friend and wants us to communicate openly and honestly through prayer.  It’s not like He doesn’t already know all, but I think of it as a kind of therapy.  It helps us a lot more than it does anything for Him.  It gives us the opportunity to share with Him and release exactly what is it we’re thinking and feeling, to make our requests known to God, to ask for forgiveness for those things we have done wrong… In short, it gives us the privilege to communicate to Him about everything and anything whenever we want.

– “Never be reluctant to pray, for prayer is the key in the hand of faith to unlock heaven’s treasure house. Without regular prayer we are in danger of growing careless and losing our way (ACS, p. 40).”

1. Feel the Need for His Help – “Unless our hearts are open to the Spirit’s influence we can’t receive God’s blessing (ACS, p. 40).”

2. Have Faith – “Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.’ Mark 11:24, NIV. Even when we do not receive the exact things we pray for, we need to believe; we need to have faith[…]God is too wise to make a mistake and too good to keep from us anything that is for our best good (ACS, p. 40).”

3. Have a Spirit of Forgiveness – “If we expect our prayers to be heard, we must forgive others in the same way and to the same extent as we hope to be forgiven (ACS, p. 40).”

– “[…] take time for personal, private prayer, for it is the very lifeblood of your soul (ACS, p. 41).

– “What will you talk to God about in your personal prayers? Everything! Your wants and needs, your happiness and sadness, your problems and fears, tell it all to God. He will never consider a single word or request a burden, no matter how long or how much you pray […] Nothing is too small for His interest and desire to help you. If it’s something of concern to you, it’s a concern to Him, too. (ACS, p. 41).” ~~ Isn’t this amazingly comforting???  To know that you can talk to to God about ANYTHING and He is willing to listen, even when nobody else is…for that I am FOREVER and ALWAYS grateful and try to never take for granted…

What does it mean to pray in Jesus’ name? ~~ “To pray in the name of Jesus means more than merely mentioning His name at the beginning or end of a prayer. It means praying in the spirit of Jesus, believing His promises, relying upon His grace, and acting as He would have us act (ACS, p. 41).”

Even with prayer, as with everything else in life, there should be a balance. ~~ “A person who does nothing but pray will soon stop praying meaningfully (ACS, p. 41).”

– “[…] we have an infinitely greater reason to love God than to love our friends, so it should be the most natural thing in the world to make Him first in our thoughts, to talk of His goodness, and to share with others His power in our lives (ACS, p. 41).”
