Muy Interesante: Paul’s Thoughts on Marriage

Hey Everyone!

So I was reading my devotional this morning (more like this afternoon cuz that’s when I woke up…), which was on Paul’s thoughts on marriage as written in 1 Corinthians 7.  And I thought is take on the subject was very interesting, but also true for his times, and possibly for this time.  While I do NOT agree with what he said in verse 1 completely (I’ll be posting the passage below in a sec.)(because seriously if a man doesn’t marry, how’s a woman supposed to marry?), I do understand where he was coming from.  He was most likely to those who wanted to be true disciples of Christ and do whatever they could to spread the Gospel, and often times for certain (not all) individuals that can be very difficult to balance with a wife and a family.  And I think that’s very important for many of us singles to realize, this might be the prime time in our lives for us to allow God to really use us.  He can take us all over the world pretty much, just preaching his soon return and the message of salvation and allow us various opportunities in our single-hood that may not be as feasible during a marriage.  So I think we should realize that, and appreciate that, and take advantage of that while we still can….but I digress.  Here’s what Paul had to say in 1 Corinthians 7 (verses 1-7, NIV)

1Now for the matters you wrote about: It is good for a man not to marry.[a] 2But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. 3The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. 5Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. 6I say this as a concession, not as a command. 7I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.

Of course there’s A LOT MORE in the remainder of the chapter, but yeah…not tryna dig that deep in this particular post lol.  Let me know what your thoughts are on what Paul had to say.  Hopefully you guys don’t mind sharing 🙂

Love and God Bless,

– T
