Inspiration for 2nd Bday Make-Up Look

Yup, it’s getting to that time for my weekend bday celebration plans, which includes a combined Sabbath Lunch with all of our friends and fam in the area in celebration of the birthdays of myself and my little sister.  We’re born exactly 7 years and 1 day apart.  How cool is that??? 🙂

BTW, shout out to my Tanski-boo who turned 15 years old yesterday!  YAAAAY! Love ya sistah! 🙂

Back to the make-up talk 😀 .  As you guys may remember, I did buy a second birthday dress (to refresh your memory you can click HERE and I’m referring to the second dress in the post).  And of course, I’m thinking about doing something to complement the look as far as make up goes.  And as a result, had to go back to my trusty YouTube Guru BargainPrincess to look for something.  And I thought this look was perfect:

(Once again, embedding disabled but you can still watch it on YouTube lol; the make up look starts at the 3:04 mark for those of you that wanna just skip the chit-chat; I actually like to hear what she has to say though lol)

Can’t wait to see how it’ll turn out.  I’ll most likely do one big post about all my birthday celebration looks/experiences/thank you’s, etc. at a later date.  Thanks for reading! 🙂

First Impressions: Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Peel Off Masque

A lot of First Impressions this week….hmmm…lol

Really Quick.  So my skin was just being super retarded this week.  We always battle consistently on a daily basis anyways (my skin and I have a long way to go… 😦 ), but this week it was just…ugh!  Annoying.  So after trying my usual stuff and getting less than the desired results I decided to try something new, just a face masque nothing drastic.  I did some research online to see what was out there, and cheap.  And tried to stick to a drugstore/beauty supply store line that’s been working for me, Queen Helene.  I regularly use their Mint Julep Masque which is supposed to be good for drying up pimples and what not and it works pretty well.  But this week…*smh*.  Just wasn’t enough.  So I decided to visit my local Food Lion and pick up this item seen here:

Queen Helene Grape Seed Extract Peel Off Masque

Did I mention this bad boy was on sale at Food Lion for around $2.50 (normally priced at around $4).

It’s a typical peel off masque as far as application of the product goes (put on an even layer, let dry for 10 minutes, then peel off, rinsing away any excess).  But what I love is:  1.  The consistency of the product.  It’s a bit thicker (almost like Crest gel toothpaste consistency…if that makes any sense) than other peel off masques that I’ve used in the past, and I liked that.  And 2. I think it really worked for me!

After applying the mask last night (granted that’s not ALL I did, I still did my regular skin reggie), I woke up this morning and my pimples were pretty much dried up and gone!  Granted, (**WARNING:  Please do not read the rest of this sentence if you get grossed out super easily 😛 ** lol), I did pop ’em (yes them, I had like three big ones taking up residence on my face *smh*) but that didn’t really do much cuz they kept “refilling” with the nasty oily white stuff.  Acne-prone skin/acne SUCKS.  So the fact that this dried them up so well that they’re now pretty much nonexistent knocked the heck outta me…

So I’ll be giving this product a 9.5/10 for First Impressions.  It really was pretty much close to perfect.  I will definitely be adding this to my skin care reggie and probably alternate using it with my other masque (Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque).  Let me know if you guys give it a try and if it works for  you 🙂

First Impressions: “Can’t Take That Away From Me” by JoJo

For those of you who are my friends on Facebook, then you kinda already know about this.  But you guys, I am SOOOO EXCITED that JoJo has FINALLY come out with some new music!!!  So for those of you who don’t know here’s 5 quick JoJo facts in no particular order:

1.  JoJo is one of my favorite singers of these modern R&B times.  She sings so soulfully and her music always has something to say.

2.  She’s the voice behind the radio hits “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late”.

3.  She recently had some issues with her label (they were in financial struggles) which put her in “musical limbo” where she wasn’t able to put out a record/album at all even though she’s been hard at work since her 2006 release of her album “The High Road” (which was one of those albums that I could listen to forever without skipping a single song…).

4.  She recently made the transition over to Interscope records and she will be releasing her upcoming new album with them (soooo cannot wait).

5.  She recently hooked up with Rap-Up.com to put out a free 11-song mixtape called “Can’t Take That Away From Me, which you can download HERE , LEGALLY and  FOR FREE (I know we all love to hear that right? lol; simply for the fans; love her! lol) with music that, although it isn’t a reflection of what will be on the new album, just shows us what she’s been experimenting with for the past few years and just how much she’s matured.

Now on to the mixtape.  Simply put, on first listen to the album straight through, I was so happy.  I was like “YESSSSS JOJO!”  She is definitely staying true to her strong vocals with some soulful ballads, but she also has quite a few songs on there that I feel could really kill it on the airwaves and do pretty well on the Billboard Charts as well (such as “Pretty Please” for the Pop/R&B stations, “Just a Dream” (Taylor Swift-esque but better) for the Pop stations, and “Boy Without a Heart” for the Pop/Adult Contemporary/Quiet Storm stations…in my humble opinion 😀 ).  If this is any indication of what’s to come on the new album, I think it will do EXTREMELY well (hopefully the masses still support good music; wishful thinking huh…*smh*).

With that said, I just wanted to share with you my favorite songs from the mixtape after my first listen.  And I have four.

Yes.

FOUR.

Yes.

It’s that good.  At least for me, but I get kinda hype over new music from my favorite artists 🙂  I actually rated these four songs 5 Stars in my iTunes library.  After just the first listen.

THE BASS BANGERS

1.  Pretty Please

2.  My Time is Money (this song is one of those “I’m an independent woman so don’t try to step to me if you’re not about something” songs.  Goes hard…lol)

THE SOULFUL TUNES

1. Just a Dream

2. Boy Without a Heart (Now this joint, WHOO!  SAAANG JOJO! lol)

Definitely gotta give JoJo and her mixtape a 10/10 for First Impressions.  I think this was a smart career move as well to get the fans (like ME!) excited for what’s to come.  I’ll definitely be looking forward to that new album.  Hope you guys check out the rest of the mixtape.  I mean come on yall.  It’s FREE!  Can’t go wrong with that 🙂

First Impressions: Maybelline Volume Express “The Falsies” Mascara

So after realizing that I’ve had my same Maybelline Define-A-Lash mascara for about 10 months (ewww, I know *smh*) and seeing a commercial for Maybelline’s newest addition to the family, the Maybelline Volume Express “The Falsies” mascara, I had to look into getting some.  THEN After learning that Target has been having a sale (I think it’s til the end of this week) on this product for JUST $5 A POP (!!!), I was sold lol.  So I purchased the product (waterproof version cuz…that’s all they had lol.  Which is fine 🙂 ) and here’s what it looks like:

Isn’t the little container really pretty??? lol.  But yeah, that’s not what I’m basing this First Impressions post on…it’s about PERFORMANCE.  Takes more than looks to impress me (*ehem* 😀 )

With that said, I really loved this!  My eyelashes are fairly long enough for my liking, but this mascara kinda stretched ’em out a bit more and the volumizing effect was great!  I didn’t experience any flaking or smudging with this product.  I actually like the design of the brush as well; I think that helps to really get the final overall look.  It wasn’t too big that stuff got in my eye or anything either.  I dunno about this making your lashes look like falsies business; didn’t really see that on my lashes anyway.  BUT that’s fine, I’m not really into the fake lashes look anyways.  Maybe I’ll try it one day but for right now, I’m content with this mascara to get me close enough lol.

For First Impressions, I’ll give “The Falsies” a solid 9/10.  Although it’s a great mascara, it doesn’t quite live up to its name, which for me is fine, but for those who really want that thick, full, false eyelash look, may come up a little short.  Til next time 🙂

Bantu Knot Out Update

Hey yall!  This is a really quick post.  Just an update on how my Bantu Knot Out (see post HERE) is doing.  I really haven’t been doing much to it besides moisturizing it with my Coconut oil and Bioinfusion Olive Oil Moisturizing Lotion and sleeping with my satin cap.  But yeah.  Separated the curls quite a bit more to achieve this little number lol.

A bit of a fuller look than the original style.  I’ll probably wear it like this until I wash my hair on Friday.  Let me know what you guys think 🙂

HotTT featuring: Stevie Wonder

Well, it was actually a tie between Stevie Wonder and Corinne Bailey Rae.  But in the event that such a tie is reached, the author of this blog holds the right to make the final decision.  Hopefully next time it won’t be so tight of a race lol.

Stevie Wonder, the younger Ray Charles, so to speak, is definitely one of my FAVORITE artists.  His music truly transcends time and in my eyes will always be applicable.  It was REALLY hard for me to narrow down my choices for today’s HotTT pick so…I had to go ahead and pick two 🙂

1.  Overjoyed
This really has to be my all time favorite song by Stevie Wonder.  It’s so romantic, and I’m a sucker for all that mushy, fall in love, yadda yadda yadda type of stuff.  Awesome song 🙂

2.  Happy Birthday
And of course I had to pick this one!  Not just because today is my birthday (YAAAAAY!).  But also because of what this song represents.  Not only has it become an international phenomenon in celebrating people’s birthdays, but initially Stevie Wonder made this song to help promote the institution of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday as a national holiday, something that Stevie was very passionate about.  And well…the rest is history!  ♪♫ Happy Birthday to Ya! ♫♪

And as always, don’t forget to VOTE for next week’s HotTT feature.  The poll is now up!

Til next week…

Inspiration for Bday Make-Up Look

So yeah, I’m supposed to be reading Case Files Peds (and I am, I promise).  Just taking a quick break to sneak in a blog 🙂

So my birthday is in mere minutes, and I’m pretty excited.  On the immediate horizon are dinner plans with some awesome friends and I’m looking forward to memories along with fun times.

But that’s not what I came to talk about.  So do you guys remember my post about what dress I’d be wearing to dinner for my bday?  If not, you can refresh your memory HERE 🙂

In planning the entire look, I wanted to do something BOLD with the make-up and so I went to my trusty source for make up tutorials (well, I actually have a couple, but she’s one of my favorites):  BargainPrincess on YouTube.  She’s awesome, always talking about some great deals, showing some fabulous hauls, and I love her personality.  And she just happened to have the PERFECT make up look that I wanted.  So of course I stocked up on my make-up supplies (minus the false lashes) for this look seen here (yeah, embedding is disabled but you can still watch it on YouTube 🙂 ):

Hopefully I don’t end up looking a hot mess with this look, but regardless I’ll rock the hot mess eye shadow like it was the best thing since sliced bread because….it’s my birthday! 🙂
